International Women’s Day
Today on International Women’s Day, we are reflecting on a journey that started almost five years ago. When we first decided to start 143PR, we had a lot of reasons. We believed in the work we wanted to do. We believed we could help spread the word about other meaningful businesses. We knew we had the experience and the grit to get it off the ground. But one of the biggest motivations was much closer to home: our daughters, Cecilie and Vivian. We wanted them to see that in addition to being their moms, we could be successful entrepreneurs.
We wanted to show our girls what’s possible when, right now, this world can feel bleak for women. We wanted them to see their moms taking risks, building something from the ground up, supporting each other in big ways and creating a career path for ourselves that didn’t exist in our corporate roles. We wanted them to see what it looks like to have supportive spouses that were cheering us on from the start and even gave us the final push to do this before we even truly believed we could ourselves. We wanted our girls to see through example that their ideas matter, their voices matter and that if they believe in themselves, anything is possible.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme from UN Women is “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” and it feels especially meaningful. Things move forward when words are turned into actions. We can show the next generation of girls what’s possible when we create paths for ourselves that might not have existed, lift each other up and most importantly, support each other.
Starting 143PR has been anything but easy, but it is up there as one of the most empowering experiences of our lives. If you had asked us ten years ago, having our own business wasn’t even a thought in our minds. Now, we look towards celebrating five successful years in business this coming June.
To Cecilie, Vivian and all the little girls watching the women in their lives: use your voice, be confident, take up space and know that anything is possible.
Happy International Women’s Day. 💜
